Winter is the most documented time of year where the majority of people pack on pounds. Experts have documented that the average person will gain 2 pounds per year after reaching the age of 35. Most of the time the extra weight is accumulated during the winter season, due to lack of exercise, over eating and hormonal imbalances.

A few years ago, shortly after I received my functional nutrition certification, I started doing research on the nutrient properties of various foods.  During my research, I noticed there were several “super foods” that were often mentioned in adding to one’s diet to improve their overall health.  Amongst those top “super foods” were salmon, kefir, kale, spinach, avocado, blueberries, coconuts, and chia seeds.

Recently, I did a bodybuilding show, and I originally planned to compete with a couple of my personal training colleagues that I used to work with.  I’d been talking about doing a bodybuilding competition for some time, and I wanted to see how lean and fit I could get by implementing my 3 years of research in the areas of Sports and Functional Nutrition.  Midw
